The 2019/2020 Staples Fitness Project was the brainchild of coaches from the Staples Football and Staples Lacrosse program and put into motion with the collaboration of parent leadership and the PAL youth program. Together, they set to modernize and expand the strength training equipment available to all Staples athletes and students. Doing this, in an effort to broaden participation of on-site strength training among Staples boys and girls teams beyond the few male sports that have long dominated the Staples weight room.
Funding was provided through 10 Staples sports teams and 88 private donors – THANK YOU!
Over 150 hours of volunteer labor was provided by Football and LAX athletes, coaches and parents - it was a great team effort. Staples athletes and parent volunteers broke down and moved out the unused Staples equipment and installed them at Bridgeport Central High School - which had a room but no working weight racks.
Our new Sorinex designed facility is similar to multi sport, multi gender facilities being used by a wide range of athletes at colleges and high schools across the country. A team effort to be proud of - THANK YOU:
