HEAD COACH

Adam Behrends

Coach Adam Behrends has been the Head Coach of Staples Football since 2019. Before coming to Staples, Coach Behrends coached at IMG Academy for nine years. Coach Behrends helped launch the program, and has been an assistant coach for the IMG National Varsity team that went a combined 53-4 from 2013-18. The program finished in the top-five of the MaxPreps and USA TODAY national rankings each of his last four years, and developed more than 140 student-athletes who went on to Division I football programs. During his career, Coach Behrends has worked with players from the youth level up to the NFL, at all positions. His specialty was defensive backs and quarterbacks. In addition to his coaching duties with the varsity football program, Coach coordinated and directed weekly summer camps, designed and directed the football-specific portion of the Cam Newton Skills Challenge, coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebackers during the 2011 NFL Lockout, and has coached at the Under Armour All-American Combine in St. Petersburg in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Prior to becoming an Assistant Coach, Coach served as an intern within the IMG Academy Athletic & Personal Development program and Football program in 2010. He has led and directed speed and strength sessions, as well as leading strength and conditioning programs. As a coach with the varsity football program, Coach Behrends has helped guide the development of dozens of top NCAA prospects. Among the players he has worked with are the likes of Seattle Seahawks RB Bo Scarbrough, Florida State and Florida Atlantic QB Deondre Francois and Michigan QB Shea Patterson, all of whom were selected to the Under Armour (Scarbrough, Francois) and U.S. Army All-American games (Patterson). Notably, Patterson bagged Army-All American Game MVP honors in 2015, on the heels of guiding IMG Academy to its first undefeated regular season. He also made an impact with the IMG Academy Pre-Combine/Draft Training program. With the Combine program, he worked with several position groups, including quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, linebackers and defensive backs. Those players include the likes of Seattle Seahawks QB and Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Josh Dobbs, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater. During his collegiate football career, Coach Behrends played as a Defensive Back at Minnesota State-Mankato after transferring from Ellsworth Community College where he was an all-region Defensive Back in 2006. Coach Behrends graduated from Bettendorf High School in Bettendorf, Iowa, and was an all-conference defensive back in 2003. Coach is originally from Bettendorf, Iowa where his brother Tony, still lives. Coach’s oldest brother, JR, resides in Iowa City.

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Paul Philpott

Coach Paul Philpott returned to Westport in 2020 for his second tour of duty with Staples Football. He served on the Wreckersʼ staff from 1993-2000, including the 1997 FCIAC Championship team. His son Rob Philpott graduated from Staples in 1996 and is a member of the Staples Football Hall of Fame. After graduating from college, Coach Philpott was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as a Naval Aviator for twenty years, including service in combat, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his time in the military, he had a career in the private sector as an executive in the Health Insurance business. Coach Philpottʼs first High School football coaching experience was in Southern California at Mission Viejo High School, where he was a Defensive Assistant, coaching the linebackers.Prior to coming to Westport, Philpott served as Defensive Coordinator at Daniel Hand High School. During the three year span from 2017-2019, the Hand Tigers compiled a 37 game winning streak, third longest in state history, and won two State Championships. During that run, Coach Philpottʼs defense gave up an average of less than 7 points per game. During his 11 year tenure at Hand, the program amassed a total of four State Championships.

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR & WIDE RECEIVER'S

Tom Broschardt

Coach Tom Broschardt: Previous to joining the Staples Football Staff in 2020, Broschardt was Head Coach of Trinity Catholic. Coach Tom has also coached at Pace University, Western Connecticut State University, SUNY Maritime College and Union College in Kentucky. Coach is passionate about helping student-athletes play at the next level and finding the right spot for them to succeed. Coach has a Sports Management degree from Sacred Heart University where he played at the Division I level and also has a Masters in Non-Profit Administration from Pace University. He currently resides in Norwalk with his wife.

HEAD OF STRENGTH & CONDITIONING, SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR-QB's

Ed Groth

Coach Ed Groth has been a part of the Staples Wreckers Coaching Staff since 2020. Coach Ed is the Special Teams Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach and Head Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for the Wreckers. Prior to coming to Staples in 2020, he was a coach at Greenwich High School. He was the Assistant Special Teams Coordinator in 2018 and the Kicking/Punting Coach. In 2019, Coach took over as the Quarterbacks Coach, Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coordinator, and Assistant Special Teams Coordinator. During his year as Quarterbacks Coach, Coach Groth’s Quarterback was named to the All-FCIAC Second Team and was in the running for Gatorade State Player of the Year. Coach Groth was a tri-athlete at Shelton High School where he participated in football, swimming and baseball. He graduated from Shelton in 2013 where he was named All-State by the New Haven Register and All-Walter Camp as a Place-Kicker. Coach Groth holds the SCC Record for longest field goal in league history with a 49 yard kick his senior year. He went on to play college football at Central Connecticut State University. During his senior year, Coach was 12/16 on field goals with a long of 43 yards and had a punt average of 40 yards. He was named NEC All-Conference and All-New England as a Kicker and a Punter. He had training camp and private workout invites from the CFL, AFL and XFL football Leagues after college. After earning a degree in Exercise Science, Coach Groth took on Strength & Conditioning internships at Yale, Purdue and Clemson. Coach also owns his own business called “Power Kicking” running private and group lessons locally in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York. He also runs camps across the nation helping kickers, punters and snappers take their game to the next level!

OFFENSIVE LINE, STUDENT-ATHLETE ACADEMIC PROGRESS COORDINATOR

Phil Abraham

Coach Phil Abraham has been a Staples Wreckers Offensive Line Coach since 2019. Coach Abraham started coaching football in 2015 at Shelton High School where he was the Offensive and Defensive Line Coach at the Freshman level and also worked with Varsity players. While in Shelton he helped his Freshman squad achieve two undefeated seasons and saw his Varsity team participate in three consecutive successful postseasons. In addition to coaching football, Coach Abraham was also a wrestling coach for two years in Shelton. Coach Abraham was a tri-athlete at Shelton High School where he participated in the football, wrestling, and lacrosse programs. After high school, Abraham attended the University of Connecticut where he studied mathematics and graduated in 2013. Currently, Abraham is a math teacher at Staples and looks forward to working with his athletes on the field and in the classroom.

RUNNING BACKS, ASSISTANT TO THE PAL YOUTH PROGRAM

Ryan Connors

Coach Ryan Connors has been with the Staples Football Varsity staff since 2018. Coach Connors is a Running Backs Coach. He is a 2015 Staples graduate and played three years at the Varsity level as a Defensive Back and Linebacker. Coach Connors has previously volunteered in the PAL Football and Basketball Programs, and with the Westport Challenger Baseball Program. Coach Connors attends Norwalk Community College, and resides in Westport.

OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT, ASSISTANT TO THE PAL YOUTH PROGRAM

Matty Jacowleff

Coach Matty Jacowleff became a full-time part of the Staples Football coaching staff in 2020 after having a part-time role in 2019 while attending Northeastern University. Coach Matty earned a Business Marketing degree from Northeastern that same year. Matty serves as the Offensive Assistant where he assists with Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers and Offensive Line. Coach Matty is a Staples High School Alumni (Class of ‘15), where he played Linebacker for the Wreckers and was named Captain for his Senior season. Coach Matty resides in Westport and will be attending Fairfield University to obtain a Master’s degree in Education.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Dan Devore

Coach Dan Devore rejoined Staples in 2020 for his second stint on the Wreckers Football Coaching Staff. Initially, Coach Devore was the Staples Defensive End and Linebackers coach from 2007-2010. In 2019, Coach Devore served as the Defensive Line Coach at Joel Barlow High School. In 2013, Coach Devore was the Offensive Line Coach at Weston High School. Coach Devore started coaching football at Notre Dame High School in 2002 where he coached all levels before coming to Staples in 2007. When he became a Wrecker in 2007, Coach Devore also joined Laddie Lawrence and the Track & Field program as a Staples Field Coach. Coach Devore played Quarterback and Linebacker at Plymouth State College and finished his education at Sacred Heart University.

LINEBACKERS, HEAD JV COACH, ASSISTANT TO PAL YOUTH PROGRAM

Robbie Milne

Coach Robbie Milne has been with the Staples Football Coaching Staff since 2019. Coach Robbie is a Linebackers Coach after coaching Wide Receivers in 2019. Coach Robbie also is a Varsity coach with the Staples Lacrosse program. Previously, he coached Shelton High School Football, serving most recently as the Freshman Head Coach. He was also an integral member of the Shelton Youth Football program, developing the program at every level. Additionally, Coach Robbie coached for the Shelton High School Lacrosse team as a Varsity assistant and JV Head Coach. Coach Robbie graduated from Shelton High School in 2011, where he lettered two years in Football and Lacrosse.

DEFENSIVE BACKS, ASSISTANT TO THE PAL YOUTH PROGRAM

Tre Wilson

Coach Tre Wilson has been a part of the Staples Football Coaching Staff since 2019. Coach Tre is a Defensive Backs Coach. He is a 2011 graduate of the Harvey School where he lettered in Football, Basketball and Baseball each of his four years. Upon graduation he attended Dean College to play Football. After a year at Dean, in 2013 Coach Tre began to coach at the King School in Stamford where he coached Football, Basketball and Baseball. He is also involved with coaching the Stamford JCC Travel Basketball Program as well as the Express North 2028 Lacrosse Program.

FRESHMAN HEAD COACH

Steve Anderson

Coach Steve Anderson has been the Head Coach of Staples Freshman Football since 2018. Coach Anderson began his coaching career in the spring of 2005 when he went back to Trumbull High and helped bring Trumbull to a Division II State Championship. He later went on to be an assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach at ND-West Haven for 7 years. Coach Anderson has also coached girls soccer and boys basketball through the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference for the past thirteen years totaling over 35 seasons. In addition to coaching the Freshman Football team, he is currently the Head JV Boys Lacrosse Coach at Staples High School and is coaching Youth Football, Basketball and Lacrosse with Westport PAL. Coach Anderson is also the grade director of the 2026 Eclipse Lacrosse Club. Coach was a two sport athlete at Trumbull High School where he participated on the Football and Lacrosse team and was named All-FCIAC for both sports. Anderson continued his playing career at the University of New Haven where he competed on the Men's Lacrosse team. He also continued his football career playing Semi Professionally out of New Haven until 2015. Anderson began his coaching career in the spring of 2005 when he went back to Trumbull High and helped bring Trumbull to a Division II State Championship. FRESHMAN DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Ron Clarke

Coach Ron Clarke has been a part of the Staples football staff as Defensive Coordinator for the Freshman Football team since 2018. Coach Clarke has been a youth sports coach in Westport for more than 16 years, including coaching Football for nearly a decade and has coached almost all the current players on the Staples Varsity team during this time. The former Fairfield University Baseball player has coached Baseball as well and has served on the Board for Westport Youth Baseball as well as serving in a variety of roles for the Gridiron Club and the Staples Matmen

FRESHMAN SKILL PLAYERS

Kevin Macari

Coach Kevin Macari has been a part of the Staples Coaching Staff since 2020. Coach Macari began coaching in 2016 with New Canaan High School as their Quarterbacks Coach. Most recently Coach Macari was at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey where he served as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach and Junior Varsity Wide Receiver Coach. Coach Macari also has worked as a personal trainer for John Carlozzi Strength in Rowayton where he trained High School and College football and lacrosse players. Coach Macari graduated from New Canaan High School in 2011 where he played Wide Receiver and was named a finalist for the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year in 2010. Coach Macari began his College career at Georgetown University where Coach played Wide Receiver in all games as a Freshman and was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team Offense as a Sophomore. In 2013, Macari transferred to the University of Delaware to complete his football career.

FRESHMAN OFFENSIVE & DEFENSIVE LINE

Andrew Pfefferle

Coach Andrew Pfefferle has been a part of the Staples Football Staff as the Freshman Offensive Line Coach since 2019. He graduated from Staples in 2012 and currently is a Certified Personal Trainer. In the Spring of 2019, he was an assistant coach for PAL boys lacrosse and helped out with the Mini Wreckers teaching them the fundamentals of the game. Coach Pfefferle was a three sport athlete at Staples playing Football, Hockey and Lacrosse. His passion outside of work is powerlifting, his goal for the future is a 1,000lb Squat.

A.T.C., L.A.T. - HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER

Gaetana Deiso

“G” enters her 16th year as Head Athletic Trainer at Staples.She is certified with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is licensed through the state of Connecticut. She graduated from Springfield College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in Nutrition. Prior to Staples, she worked five years as Head Athletic Trainer at Greens Farms Academy and at Moore Center for Rehabilitation. She also worked with Fairfield University’s football and rugby teams from 1999 to 2002. In the summer of 2002, she worked at Boyle’s Strength and Conditioning in Boston, where she trained many professional athletes and Olympic athletes. She was also on the CATA Secondary School Committee from 2007-2012. "G" is a Certified Functional Strength Coach and a TFW (Training For Warriors) Certified Coach. She is the owner of Body Blast Sports Performance. She lives in Trumbull with her husband, Doug, and daughters, Michaela and Gabriella.

A.T.C., L.A.T. – ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER

Corey Lamonico

Corey is entering her 9th year as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Staples. Corey is certified with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is licensed through the state of Connecticut. She graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Upon graduation Corey worked for Forme Rehabilitation in New York where she was contracted to Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Mount Vernon, & New Rochelle High Schools. She returned to Connecticut in 2009, worked for Innovative Health & Rehabilitation, and covered New Canaan Youth Football, Staples High School in the winter, and worked in the clinic setting during the spring and summer. She is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner. Corey is originally from Hartsdale, New York and currently lives in Bridgeport.
