Last year, you saw firsthand that Staples football is right back where it belongs: on top! The Wreckers had one of the best – and most exciting – seasons ever, winning the FCIAC championship in heart-stopping fashion, coming within a breath of taking the Class LL State Championship, and ending up the #3 ranked team in the state.
The good news: It looks like more of the same in 2010!
As all you know, this kind of success is not achieved through smoke and mirrors. Unfortunately, it’s also not accomplished by the budget provided for the football program by the Board of Ed. It’s achieved through incredibly hard work by the Wreckers players and coaching staff, and by the support and generosity of the “Wrecker Community”!
The Staples Gridiron Club, a volunteer organization of Staples football supporters, works toward helping the Wreckers achieve their lofty goals year after year. The Gridiron Club has established scholarship grants for graduating players; has provided financial assistance to current players; and has helped fund weight room equipment, a new scoreboard, and significant improvements to the locker room facilities (including new flooring, an air purification system, and new lockers).

A winning tradition of football in Westport goes back a very long way and that tradition is alive and well!! “A Proud Tradition….A Bright Future” are the earmarks of today’s Staples Football Program and we hope you will join us in being part of that success.
