Coaching Staff


Phil Treglia

Coach Treglia brings a wealth of football coaching experience, most recently, as Offensive Coordinator at the NY AAA Catholic State Champion Archbishop Stepinac in White Plains, NY. Under Coach Treglia’s leadership the past two seasons, Stepinac’s offense averaged 34 points per game by utilizing an explosive run/pass option gameplan. Prior to Archbishop Stepinac, Coach Treglia was head coach at The Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY. At Hackley, he doubled the school’s player participation rate and won the Fairchester League Championship and Coach of the Year in 2012. In 2013, The Hackley School completed an undefeated campaign and followed in 2014 with a Metropolitan League Championship. Hackley received MSG Varsity’s distinction as the #1 small school in Westchester County for the 2015 season. Between 2009-2011, Coach Treglia led Woodlands High School in Hartsdale NY. Woodlands finished 5-1 in league play during the 2010 season, their best record in 30 years. Coach Treglia grew up in Eastchester NY and graduated from Iona Prep, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended SUNY Cortland where he played quarterback and defensive back, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics. In 2009, Coach Treglia’s love for teaching and coaching steered him toward earning a Masters degree in guidance and counseling from Mercy College. Currently, he’s a guidance counselor at Iona Prep and lives with his family in Scarsdale, NY.


Jon Zames

For the past decade, Jon has privately trained high level high school, college and professional athletes. In addition to training the Staples football team, he is responsible for training the Staples lacrosse and baseball teams. Prior to becoming a coach, Jon had a career in finance. He graduated from Columbia College and from Harvard Business School. Jon resides in Westport with his wife Karen and their two sons, Justin and Jared. He is on the PAL football and lacrosse Boards and coaches football, lacrosse and basketball.


Alex Horton

Alex Horton enters his 3rd year coaching at Staples. Alex graduated from Cheshire High School in 1991, earning All- State and All League honors, playing under Coach Petroccio and Coach Addazio. He attended the University of Connecticut, playing football during the 92/93 seasons. Alex began his coaching career at Cheshire High under Coach Addazio, winning 2 State Championships. He was the position coach for players who earned All-State honors. Currently, Alex also coaches the Westport PAL 6th grade team. He is the Co-Chairman of the CHS Football Alumni Association, and the Co-Chairman of Greens Farms Church Outreach Department. Alex is the owner of BRBG Insurance Agency, in Shelton, CT, and resides in Westport with his wife Kirsten and their children, Grace and James.


Steve Borys

Steve played high school ball in Sayville, NY where he was named All County Lineman and captain. After graduating, he played for Fordham University where he was a 2 time All Patriot League and Honorable Mention All American as offensive lineman and team captain which led to his try out with the NY Giants. He graduated from Fordham with a B.A. and then a masters degree in teaching. He has been a social studies teacher at Eastchester High School since 1997 and was the head football coach at Sleepy Hollow High School from 2003 to 2016. Since 2016, he has been a Westport PAL board member and coach. Steve has been married for 21 years to his wife Amee, director of Earthplace Preschool and director of the Staples High School preschool program. They have lived in Westport since 2007 and have two children, Emma and Peter.


Ryan Connors

Ryan is entering his first year as defensive backs coach at Staples. He is a 2015 Staples graduate that played three years Varsity as defensive back and linebacker. Ryan has previously volunteered in the PAL football and basketball programs, and with the Westport Challenger baseball program. He is currently attending Norwalk Community College, and resides in Westport, CT.


Steve Anderson

Steve Anderson was a two sport athlete at Trumbull High School where he participated on the Football and Lacrosse team and was named All FCIAC for both sports. Anderson continued his playing career at the University of New Haven where he competed on the Men's Lacrosse team. He also continued his football career playing Semi Professionally out of New Haven until 2015. Anderson began his coaching career in the spring of 2005 when he went back to Trumbull High and helped bring Trumbull to a Division II State Championship. He later went on the be an assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach at ND-West Haven for 7 years. Anderson has also coached girls soccer and boys basketball through the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference for the past twelve years totaling over 35 seasons. In addition to coaching the Freshman Football team, he is currently the Head JV Boys Lacrosse coach at Staples High School and is coaching youth football Basketball and Lacrosse with Westport Pal. Steve is also the grade director of the 2026 eclipse lacrosse club.


Ron Clarke

Ron Clarke joined the Staples football staff this year as an assistant coach for the freshman football team. Ron has been a youth sports coach in Westport for more than 15 years including youth football for nearly a decade and has coached almost all the current players on the Staples Varsity team during this time. The former college baseball player has coached baseball as well and has served on the Board for Westport Youth Baseball as well as serving in a variety of roles for the Gridiron Club and the Staples Matmen.


William 'LB' Wezenter

William Wezenter was a 2 sport athlete at West Haven High School. During his time there, he was a member of the varsity football and lacrosse teams. As a junior he was on the Blue Devils team that defeated Greenwich for a Class LL State Championship and as a senior the Blue Devils returned to the championship game against New Britain, finishing as the Class LL Runner-Up. During his senior year of lacrosse, West Haven won the SCC Division II championship. William then went on to play both sports in college, football at Mount Ida College, before transferring to Southern Connecticut where he played lacrosse and rugby, was a 2 time captain for lacrosse and an All-PCLL selection as an attackman. As a coach William has been involved in lacrosse for the last 13 years in West Haven between youth and the high school, and is currently the JV Head Coach at West Haven High School. In addition to this, he has also coached at Guilford High School, Green Mountain College, Southern Connecticut State University, and is presently the Head Coach for Men’s Lacrosse at University of Bridgeport. He is also the owner and director of West Shore Lacrosse Club. On the gridiron, William continued his career in football semi-professionally up until this season all around Connecticut and Rhode Island. In addition to coaching the freshman football team at Staples, William is assisting youth football with the Westport PAL.


Drew Smith

Drew grew up in Norwalk and is a graduate of Brien McMahon High School where he lettered in 3 sports. Drew was a 3-year varsity starter in football at RB and DB, 2-time all-FCIAC and all-area team. He was a 3-year starter on the lacrosse team at midi with honors at all-FCIAC 2 years in a row and all-area team for 3 years. He also spent 2 years in the varsity basketball program. After high school, Drew went on to play 4 years of college lacrosse at Herkimer where they won the national championship and later transferred to Adelphi University. He has been the assistant varsity coach for the lacrosse team at Staples for the past 4 years as well as the Head Coach for the freshman girls basketball team. He is an educator in the Staples High School’s Special Education department and is married to Ashley Cote Smith and father to Dez Joseph who was born Dec 27th.

Gaetana Deiso

“G” is certified with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is licensed through the state of Connecticut. She graduated from Springfield College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in Nutrition. She begins her 15th year as Head Athletic Trainer at Staples. Prior to Staples, she worked 5 years as Head Athletic Trainer at Greens Farms Academy and at Moore Center for Rehabilitation. She also worked with Fairfield University’s football and rugby teams from 1999 to 2002. In the summer of 2002, she worked at Boyle’s Strength and Conditioning in Boston, where she trained many professional athletes and Olympic athletes. She was also on the CATA Secondary School Committee from 2007-2012. "G" is a Certified Functional Strength Coach and a TFW (Training For Warriors) Certified Coach. She is the owner of Body Blast Sports Performance. She lives in Trumbull with her husband, Doug, and daughters, Michaela and Gabriella.


Corey Lamonico

Corey is certified with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is licensed through the state of Connecticut. She graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Upon graduation Corey worked for Forme Rehabilitation in New York where she was contracted to Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Mount Vernon, & New Rochelle High Schools. She returned to Connecticut in 2009, worked for Innovative Health & Rehabilitation, and covered New Canaan Youth Football, Staples High School in the winter, and worked in the clinic setting during the spring and summer. She is entering her 8th year as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Staples High School. She is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practioner. Corey is originally from Hartsdale, New York and currently lives in Bridgeport.


Cynthia Felizardo

Cynthia Felizardo is entering her senior year as an AT major at SHU. Prior to Staples, she did her clinical hours with SHU Men's Ice Hockey Team, Bunnell High School, and the United States Coast Guard Academy. Cynthia is a part of the SHU Honors Program and will be graduating with her honors minor. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and completes various hours of community service at the local Ronald McDonald House Charities. She also serves as vice president of the Pre- PA club, and secretary of the Student Athletic Training Organization on campus. After graduation, she plans to go on to work in the military setting and become a Physician's Assistant. She is originally from Danbury, CT. Cynthia is excited to work with the Staples athletes and is looking forward to the upcoming season.
